2024 Puerto Rican Mayor for a Day

On Friday, September 13, the 2024 Puerto Rican Mayor for a Day and Flag raising ceremony was held at Waterbury City Hall. The front of City Hall was filled with excited attendees from the Hispanic Coalition, La Casa Bienvenida, and more from the Greater Waterbury community. 

The 2024 Puerto Rican Mayor for a Day was Ms. Jacqueline Matos. Ms. Matos was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Bridgeport and her Master’s degree in Urban Education from Southern Connecticut State University. She began her career in 1993 as a Bilingual Math Educator and continued to be an educator in Waterbury Public Schools for 31 years. We thank her for her years of dedicated service!
