The Hispanic Coalition’s Summer Block Party was a success this past weekend! We were able to give out food from Waterbury PAL, ice cream by Two Brothers, and free school backpacks (courtesy of RRaíces). Superintendent of Waterbury Public Schools, Dr. Verna Ruffin attended and spoke briefly to the community. A total of 572 people were counted in attendance and people began lining up at 10:30 am. RRaíces was able to receive surveys from 59 parents, 16 students, 4 alumni, and 4 community parents. 30 of the surveys were completed in Spanish. Two substantive focus groups were completed in order for RRaíces to receive responses that will further help the program reach students and families for optimal success in Waterbury. We are excited about the feedback we have received for our new program, RRaíces, and excited for the children in the community as they head into a brand new school year!
We also thank and are grateful for La Casa Bienvenida, Waterbury Public Schools, Waterbury PAL, Staywell Health Center, Wellmore Behavioral Health, Silas Bronson Library, Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, New Opportunities, Inc., and more for participating in this amazing event for out community!
