To encourage Children to read, Victor Lopez Jr., Executive Director of The Hispanic Coalition, met with first graders to read them a Dr. Seuss story. The students from the International Dual Language School in Waterbury were celebrating the birthday of children’s book author Dr. Seuss on March 2nd.
At 10 am, Mrs. LaBrie, 1st Grade Instructor, gathered Her students on the square carpet. Before beginning, Víctor invited the students to wear the distinguished red and white striped hat from “The Cat in the Hat” so that they could live a unique experience of the magical world of words. All students became interested in the adventures told in the book “Wacky Wednesday”, written by Dr. Seuss. As a gift, every student received the book in both languages, English, and Spanish. At the end of the activity, the students were fascinated with Victor’s interpretation and above all, with the interest of continuing reading to acquire more knowledge.
