Although Three Kings Day or Epiphany is celebrated on January 6 of each year, the arrival of these magical people was different for the Waterbury community in 2022 due to Covid 19 and cold weather. This time, Gaspar, Balthasar and Melchior arrived on Saturday, February 5th, at the River Baldwin Recreational Center to impart joy and enthusiasm to the children of Waterbury.
The Three Wise Men have a goal to fulfill and of course, Covid 19 would not avoid the tradition that this year was the 18th anniversary. The stretch was long, but the 3 Wise Men fulfilled their purpose of delivering gifts to these very special children. They carried the gifts to their cars and surprised their families. Immediately their faces of uncertainty and doubtfulness were transformed into ones of happiness. Parents also enjoyed the event that was until 3:00 in the afternoon. The 40 families who gathered at the Center also received a food basket and Covid 19 rapid tests for the safety of the entire family nucleus.
This great celebration was made possible thanks to The Hispanic Coalition and its members, who are passionate about continuing the tradition of the 3 Wise Men in the Waterbury community.
