2023 Puerto Rican Mayor for a Day

On Friday, July 21, the 2023 Puerto Rican Mayor for a Day and Flag raising ceremony was held at Waterbury City Hall. Due to the rainy weather in the morning, the ceremony was held indoors in City Hall’s Veteran’s Hall. The room was filled with excited attendees from the Hispanic Coalition, La Casa Bienvenida, CUYO (Afro Caribbean Cultural Center’s summer program for children), and more from the Greater Waterbury community. 

The 2023 Puerto Rican Mayor for a Day was Christopher Ortiz, the Founder and Owner of CO Sports Academy and a born and raised resident of Waterbury, CT. Before Chris began his teaching career, he followed his dream of playing professional football for the NFL. He is the former wide receiver for the New England Patriots, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the New York Giants. To learn more about Chris, please visit cosportsacademy.org.
